Train Driver Jobs Application

The first step towards your journey to become a train driver involves the process of obtaining and filling out an application form. This can be done in two ways;

1. You can either contact a train operating company and request an application pack to be sent out to you, or download one from their website, fill in the application form and send it off with your curriculum vitae (CV) and a cover letter.

Train operating companies are normally happy to collect your completed application pack and send you an acknowledgement letter. The forms are then stored safely for consideration when a vacancy comes up.

The disadvantage of this approach is that you might end up completing the pack “blindly”, not providing tailored responses to screening questions in the pack to reflect key criteria that the train operating company uses to advertise the job role.

2. The second approach to applying for the job of a train driver, and one that I would recommend, is to watch out for vacancies that are advertised. This means searching regularly, job pages of train operating company websites.

P.S. sign up for my newsletter below and get regular email alert of train driver job vacancies across the rail network when they become advertised. This takes the burden off you as well as you don’t get to miss an opportunity to apply.

When train operating companies put out an advert inviting applications for the job of a trainee train driver, they usually use some key criteria to describe the job role. You need to study that information closely and take it into consideration when filling out your application form.
