TRAINABILITY FOR RULES AND PROCEDURES
This
test is designed to assess your ability to learn new information
related to the job of a train driver, and recall that information
quickly and effectively.
The test is a written assessment and comes in two parts.
PART 1
This
part is a comprehension test. You will listen to a pre-recorded
instructions played over an audio tape. A printed copy of the
instructions is also handed to you to read while listening to the audio.
You
will then be allowed about 3 minutes to study and learn the
information. You are allowed to make notes of key points if you want.
After
3 minutes has elapsed, all materials related to the information is
withdrawn from you and a set of multiple choice questions based on the
information you have just studied will be handed to you. You will
normally have about an average of 30 minutes to answer the questions.
Again speed and accuracy are just as important.
An
effective way to prepare for this test is to cut out several newspaper
articles and use as practise material. You will need a friend to act as
your assessor. Time yourself during practise to judge your speed
alongside accuracy. For each article, give yourself 3 minutes to study
the information contained. Jot down key points as you go along. After
reading through and making notes, let your friend ask you questions
from the article.
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL TEST RESULT.
1.
Make a habit of jotting down key points as you read through the
passage. This has been proven to increase ability to capture
information.
2. Study your rough notes very well within the time allowed.
3. Practise until you are confident.

PART 2
The
second part of the trainability for rules and regulation features a set
of dials and a reference sheet used to answer a set of multiple choice
questions. This test kind of re-enacts a scenario you are likely to
face while carrying out the duties of a train driver.
You will be given limited time to answer a couple of multiple choice questions, requiring speed and accuracy.
Understanding the logic behind these practise exercises is the key to excelling in the test
TIPS
- Make sure you grasp the principle behind the test.
- Use the reference sheet to follow order for checking dials.
- Work as fast as you can with accuracy in mind.
